Joni Karjalainen (M. Soc Sc)

Joni Karjalainen (M. Soc. Sc.) has worked as a project researcher in the Finland Futures Research Centre since 2013. His research interests include the study of innovative business models and knowledge creation in solar photovoltaics in sub-Saharan Africa. In his doctoral research, Karjalainen explores the inclusiveness of clean energy entrepreneurship in Eastern Africa.

His recent research projects include Great Electrification in Peer-to-Peer Society (2018), Neo-Carbon Energy (2014–2017), ENCORE – Economically viable city centre and urbanizing downtown (2015–2016), Access to Sustainable Energy for All (2011-2014) and Kenya and Tanzania Beyond 2015: Exploring domestic debates and envisioning development futures (2013–2014).

Karjalainen was placed in the University of Sussex, Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) in the United Kingdom in 2017. Karjalainen has previous experience in the fields of international development and communications and holds a political science degree (M Soc Sc) from the University of Helsinki.

Karjalainen is based in Accra, Ghana.
